For Kids

Download the stillspotting nyc for Kids PDFLiving in a big city can be fun. There’s so much going on—lots of people, traffic, and things to do. But where can you go to get a break from all the activity? The Guggenheim Museum’s project stillspotting nyc has asked artists and architects to answer that question and to create “spots” for us to enjoy “stillness.”

Over the next two years, stillspotting projects will take place across New York. We hope you and your family will visit them. To get you thinking about this idea, try some—or all—of these activities in the stillspotting nyc: Queens family activity pack. (PDF 187 KB).

Fall 2012

Symposium

At the end of its two-year run, stillspotting nyc will offer a public forum for cross-disciplinary dialogue about key ideas associated with the project. The symposium will feature experts from varied fields such as architecture and design, the arts, neuroscience, sociology, and government, as well as representatives from international health organizations.

The symposium will wrap up the cycle of editions in the New York project and start a larger conversation about how man-made environments can be reconceived, reshaped, and redesigned to provide increased opportunities for calm and stillness. The ultimate goal of the symposium is to help foster an approach to urban design and planning that will integrate sources of quiet and reflection into the everyday urban landscape.
